FAQs

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Not at all. The top performers in the most competitive fields hone their edge with regular counseling. Fortune 500 CEOs, professional athletes and entertainers, attorneys, physicians, first responders and more  use therapy to stay resilient and creative and to stay on top of their game. Successful people know when they need help and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you  identify your strengths and explore how to use them to reduce your problems.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

Would you let your friend do your root canal? The difference is between someone who can listen, and someone who has the training and experience to listen professionally. I can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you proven skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, counseling is private. You won’t have to worry about others knowing your business. Also, there's the common problem that once people feel better they  avoid that person so they aren’t reminded of their difficult times. Or that eventually, they'll talk to others.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication can be effective but it can't solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. We can explore your views on this topic, especially if you're undecided about talking to your doctor. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack your problems and expand on your strengths.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Each person is unique and has different issues and goals. Therapy is tailored to your specific needs and style.

How long will it take?

This is not possible to predict in a general FAQs page. The length of time counseling takes depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and what drives you to seek counseling. We start with assessing your baseline, making a treatment plan, and  then we'll measure and discuss your progress every month. I believe in staying focussed and on target in each session.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

I'm so glad you're dedicated to getting the most from your sessions. Your active participation  will be crucial to your success.
